Job Description

The Role: Satellite Platform Engineer Location: London Salary: £40 - 50k p/a (Depending on experience) Profile The Platform Engineer will report to satellite project management and will be responsible for and provide expertise on all satellite platform subsystems. The Platform Engineer will work closely with the rest of the spacecraft team to ensure successful systems design, and implementation. The Platform Engineer will have the technical ability and the mental strength to propose key solutions based on engineering design and test results. The Platform Engineer will also aspire to grow within the team either to take on further subsystem areas or to become a systems engineer. Responsibilities Ownership of platform subsystems for the companies existing satellites, tasks will involve holding subsystem expertise, attending relevant reviews at subsystem and spacecraft level, preparing the engineering response to relevant RFD/Ws and NCRs, and assisting in systems engineering activities. For future procurements, additional tasks will include system design activities, requirements capture, analysis of proposals, and following the subsystems from contract signature through to flight. Tasks will include chronicling and reporting to relevant management and colleagues along with critical review of status and proposed solutions. Tasks will also involve operations support activities including procedure review, database preparation, and support during LEOP and in-orbit operations. Mentoring of other team members on areas of subsystem expertise will occur at regular intervals. The successful candidate will have the following experience: Platform systems engineering experience In-depth knowledge of at least three platform subsystems Experience of the satellite design, build and test cycle Experience of in-orbit operations Proven team working skills Knowledge of communications payloads is advantageous. In addition the following skills are essential: Fluency in English Ability to work independently and effectively, co-coordinating the tasks Strong analytical skills Willingness to travel overseas Excellent communications and inter-personal skills (written and verbal) Excellent organisational skills Fully literate with usual desktop tools, and either MATLAB or MathCad Understanding and support of the small team dynamic Self-motivated, flexible and dynamic The Company The client is an exciting niche player in the communication satellite/spacecraft sector and is involved in developing some of the most complex electronic systems within this arena.
